SAWs builds wooden wheelchair ramps for low income people with disabilities and the effects of aging. We have been working in Elkhart County and Northern Indiana for 5 years. There are dozens of individuals in Elkhart County and the surrounding counties that are trapped in their own homes due to a threshold or steps they cannot negotiate with their wheelchairs or walkers. The need is great and the effort needed to help is small. There is very little skill needed since we put our ramps together with screws and we prefabricate them so it is simple assembly. We have experienced leaders to guide every phase. We have men, women and children work on our ramps. An average project will take 3-5 hours after fabrication.
